Disaster thriller movie “Pandora” continued to dominate Korean box office for consecutive two weeks. The movie has also climbed to make it to Top 10 list of the International box-office.

The data from Korean Film Council (KOFIC) as reported by Korea JoongAng Daily revealed that “Pandora” still ruled the box office in Korea. This weekend the movie made 8.28 billion won ($7.4 million) over three days in Friday to Sunday, Dec. 16 to 18 with over a million admissions. That figure accounted for 42.8 percent of the sales.

In its second week after its premiere on Dec. 7, “Pandora” has achieved 3.11 million admissions which earned the movie 24.8 billion won ($24.7 million). However, this Christmas weekend, the movie will have a strong competitor, as another Korean blockbuster will hit the cinema. The movie “Master” is a star-studded film with Lee Byung-hun, Kang Dong-won and Kim Woo-bin as the main characters.

In the international market, “Pandora” has gained a good result as well. According to comScore as quoted by CBS News, the movie gained $7.6 million in the weekend and ranked 10th position in the international box-office based on ticket sales from all over the world excluding U.S. and Canada. “Pandora” trailed behind the musical theme “La La Land” which garnered $8.7 million.

The film which was produced by Next Entertainment World is full of suspense since its beginning. Inspired by the Fukushima nuclear disaster, “Pandora” revolves around the story of ordinary people and their struggle to survive in the catasthropic event. Audience will surely be brought at the edge of their seat throughout the entire movie.

Actor Kim Nam-Gil played as one of the main characters, along with Kim Joo-Hyun, Jung Jin-Young and Kim Young-Ae. The movie portrays a neglected politicans and bureaucrats who focused on the administrative aspects instead of providing an adequate maintenance for the nuclear power plant. “Pandora” has also been previewed in the Macao 1st International Film Festival on two weeks ago.
