G-Dragon Scores Win On Music Core, Inkigayo Despite Lack Of Live Performance, Gaon Chart Decision

Even with the recent decision of Gaon Chart to disqualify G-Dragon's "Kwon Ji Yong" from its sales tally due to a technicality, the BIGBANG leader is managing to overcome the odds by doing well on music shows. He charted wins in Inkigayo and Music Core despite not being able to perform live in the shows.

According to Soompi, G-Dragon's "Untitled 2014" won over PSY's "New Face" and "I Luv It" on the long-running SBS music show. G-Dragon also took his first win on Music Core as his "Untitled 2014" went head-to-head against SISTAR's "Lonely" and TWICE's megahit "Signal."

The performance of G-Dragon's album on music shows and music charts were expected to be affected by Gaon Chart's decision since their stats are used by shows like Inkigayo and Music Core to determine their weekly winners. Music Bank and M! Countdown use stats provided by Hanteo, which accepted "Kwon Ji Yong" as a legitimate album.

It can be recalled that Gaon Chart refused to accept G-Dragon's "Kwon Ji Yong" as an album because it was released in a USB format. In its decision, it cited that the USBs didn't contain the songs itself but rather links in which users can download the songs using special keys. The company cited that this makes G-Dragon's latest album more like a digital release instead of an actual album.

G-Dragon, through his Instagram account, expressed disappointment over Gaon Chart's decision and while he did not specifically name who these "people are who are judging his album," his message remained clear. He said that the main point of releasing music is not the package in which it is contained in but rather his work, his songs and his melodies that will stay with his audience for a long time, Kpopstarz reported.

Meanwhile, despite his success on music shows, some fans still want to show up in music shows to perform live. Some are worried that his popularity is declining so he needs to be visible in these shows. However, his busy schedule for his world tour which will run through September may render him incapable of doing so. If the sales of G-Dragon's album sales, as well as World Tour sold out shows would be an indication, the BIGBANG leader has more than proven that he is still on top of the game.
