Nike Air MAG 2015: The famous Marty McFly sneakers from the movie Back To The Future II has been brought to life by Nike Inc. in 2011. It was missing one very cool feature of the shoe, however. The self-tying feature shown on the film is missing from the Nike Air MAG shoe.

The setting when Marty McFly flew to the future was 2015 and the film was shot 1989. 15 years later in real-time, original designer of the shoe, Tinker Hatfield, saw an online petition to bring the then fictional-shoe to life and with the help of shoe innovator Tiffany Beers, they created and built the Nike MAG from scratch.

Only a limited 1,500 pairs of Nike MAG were made ever and it was all auctioned off on eBay. The earnings from the bidding of the limited edition shoes went to the Michael J. Fox Foundation for Parkinson’s Research.

It was reported that the bidding for the piece of shoe that has been an icon for movies sold nearly as much as $6 million as sneaker fans, movie fans and celebrities all tried to buy a piece of history.

After four years from its initial release, makers of the shoe thought that they should complete every single detail that the first release of the shoe missed and it was a significant feature as shown in the video above. The futuristic and game-changing lacing system was needed to be there. The MAGs were supposed to come out in 2015, as the movie would dictate and now, the makers are trying to make this possibility into a reality.

In an appearance at the Jordan Brand's Flight Lab space in New Orleans earlier this week, designer Tinker Hatfield was asked about the possibility of seeing power lacing next year, and his answer may surprise you.

"Are we gonna see power laces in 2015? To that, I say YES!" said Hatfield.

The Air Mag style is also seen in the recently released Kobe 9 Shoes where they made a version of the new Kobe shoes with a Mag theme and called it Kobe 9 Elite "Mag". See photo above for the shoe.

It’s going to happen and if ever Marty McFly teleports from the past next year, he would be surely happy that he can wear his Nike MAGs.

What’s left is the hover board…
