Who Is Bad Villain? 'SWF' Dancer Emma Song to Debut as K-pop Idol Through Group

On May 4, Big Planet Made Entertainment (BPM), home to VIVIZ, SHINee Taemin, Lee Mujin, and more, announced the birth of its "5th-gen strongest girl group," earning explosive global reaction from K-pop fans.

In particular, Bad Villain, VIVIZ's little sister group, is a seven-member team that will debut under BPM 3 years after its establishment. The anticipation of the act arose even more after the official members took off their veils.

To begin their debut countdown, Bad Villain released two spoiler films and a "Hurricane" performance video, revealing the members' identities ahead of their official launch.

Originally, BPM marketed them through a spoiler film where the members appeared with their faces covered with masks and hats, rousing people's curiosity about the real persona behind the silhouettes.

But this time, the septet finally took off the veils, and to fans' surprise, numerous familiar faces are there.

Among the seven, three of the members Kim Inhye, Kim Yunseo, and Shin Yeseul are former participants of MBC's survival show, "My Teenage Girl," to which CLASS:y was born.

What truly made fans' jaws drop was when Emma Song appeared, who made her name known as a member of WANT, a crew that established its strong presence through Mnet's dance battle program, "Street Woman Fighter."

Prior to that, she also worked as a backup dancer for numerous K-pop idols like Kang Daniel, SHINee Key and Taemin, HyunA, and Dawn. She also worked with Jeon Somi as a choreographer.

After "SWF," Emma continued to actively communicate with fans on SNS, but she suddenly vanished in the entertainment scene after deleting her socials and not updating fans about her whereabouts.

Little did people know, she's already training to become a K-pop idol as a member of BPM's new girl group, "Bad Villain."

With her outstanding dance skills and charisma, K-pop stans are already claiming that she will shake up the K-pop scene as the next top main dancer of the 5th-gen era.

Meanwhile, Bad Villain is expected to debut in the first half of 2024 and will specialize in performance.

Bad Villain Gains Rave Reviews for 'Hurricane' Performance Video

BPM Entertainment's new girl group Bad Villain predicted a global sensation even before their official debut.

The spoiler films all exceeded 1 million views on YouTube, and its "Hurricane" performance video released on May 5 also exceeded 810,000 views in 24 hours. As of the 7th, it has recorded over 1.1 million views, by far the most outstanding performance among girl groups that debuted in 2024.

Accordingly, not only in Korea, but also in Japan, the United States, and the Arab world are showing warm responses through comments such as:

  • "The beat and dance are the best."
  • "A hip-hop girl group with a different dimension has appeared."
  • "I’m looking forward to a hip-hop girl group."
  • "Even though it’s a short video of less than 30 seconds, it’s so good and fresh."
  • "I’m already looking forward to their debut."

Although full-fledged debut promotions have not yet begun, the reason Bad Villain was able to achieve such results is interpreted as the synergy between Big Planet Made Entertainment's secret marketing strategy and the members' outstanding skills, heralding the birth of a performance-specialized girl group.

It is said that the combination of a sharp and powerful performance and an intense beat that captivates the listener's ears raises expectations of a hip-hop girl group that has never been seen before.
