Mariah Carey Talking To Divorce Lawyers? Age Difference May Have Been Too Great, Singer Suspects Nick Cannon Of Cheating

Mariah Carey and Nick Cannon always seemed to have a fairytale romance. Having tied the knot after just two months of dating, the two have spent the last six years in what looked like a happy union, and produced two children. But maybe the twelve year age difference (Carey is 45 and Cannon is 33) turned out to be too great a barrier after all, as Carey reportedly suspect Cannon of cheating, and has  been speaking with divorce lawyers, and living separately from her husband.

According to sources, the couple has been having a trial separation while having renovations done on their $10 million Tribecca loft, with Cannon living in hotels the whole time. One insider says, “They’re using construction as a cover. They’re not living together because they can’t stand each other.” The source of tension appears to be Carey’s distrust of Cannon. The singer has reportedly gone as far as to hire security guards to follow the comedian, and keep him away from other women at events he was hosting. Carey also allegedly insisted that Cannon not drink at his gigs in Las Vegas, because “he gets in trouble when he drinks.”  In addition, sources say that Cannon suspected Carey of having an affair with rapper Nas.

According to reports, Cannon is more reluctant to file for divorce, but Carey is insistent on moving forward with it. Despite his hesitation though, insiders say he is willing to let the singer have full custody of their twins, but will want generous visitation, as well as a chunk of her $500 million fortune.

Adding fuel to the divorce rumors is the fact that the two have not mentioned each other on social media, or been spotted together in months. While Cannon has always been quick to express his affection for Carey over Twitter, he now hasn’t tweeted anything about her since November. Carey last tweeted a family portrait in June. The two were last seen on the red carpet together at the SAG Awards in January. An announcement of the couple’s separation is expected this week. A representative for Carey declined to comment on the matter.
