Emmys 2014: Kathy Bates, Best Supporting Actress For FX’s American Horror Story, Recounts Robin Williams’ Gift Of A Quarter

Award-winning actress Kathy Bates remembers a moment with one of the world's legendary comics, Robin Williams. After receiving her Emmy as Best Supporting Actress for the TV miniseries American Horror Story: Coven, Golden Globe Winner Kathy Bates (for the classic Stephen King's Misery) disclosed backstage at the Emmy's 2014 how she was just too overtaken by stage fright to say she wanted to dedicate her award to the late comedian Robin Williams. Bates said she originally had it in mind to thank the comedian for a kind favor he showed her but she was just too nervous to remember to say it on stage while delivering her thank you speech.

Back in 1990 when she was declared Golden Globe Winner for Best Actress for the film version of Stephen King's Misery with James Caan in the male lead, she said she wanted to call her mother about her win. She was waiting at a pay phone to do so but she didn't have a quarter to make the call. This was back in those days before the cell phone.Turning around and asking if anyone had a quarter, there was Robin Williams who gave her one and said, "Here's a quarter".

In her brief speech, the American Horror story actress never failed to acknowledge the effort of the movie's crew in New Orleans and the rest, attributing her award to them. "I have to thank everybody who had anything to do with our show. Last season was awesome, this season's gonna be great. Our crew in New Orleans worked grueling hours to bring this wonderful show to light. This is for them. Thank you so very much."

Kathy Bates, 66, is one of those seasoned actresses over 50s who were given awards at the 66th Emmys. Amongst her peers are Jessica Lange, 65, also Bate's co-star in the American Horror Story miniseries who bagged this year's Best Actress Award. Both of them have already received their Oscars in the previous years. Julia Louis-Dreyfus, 54, also won the Best Supporting Actress this year for her challenging role as an 'incompetent' Vice President Selina Myers on the series, The Thick Of IT, Veep.
