Lena Dunham’s Twitter Becomes Tribute Page To Joan Rivers: ‘Girls’ Star Honors Legendary Comedienne With Plastic Surgery Joke

The passing of Joan Rivers has shocked and saddened fans across the world, including countless comedians who admired the funny lady's spunk, passion, and merciless wit. 'Girls' star Lena Dunham couldn't help but share her feelings about the comedy legend on Twitter.

And in true Rivers fashion, Dunham's words include some brutal hilarity.

I told Maron I'd have a zinger when Joan died. But I didn't think she ever would. She felt eternal, and anyway, zingers are her territory," Dunham wrote on Twitter, adding, "That being said, Joan is gone but a piece of her lives on: her nose, because it's made of polyurethane."

Dunham, often considered a modern comedic voice for young women, took to the social media site to pay her respects to Rivers, who died on Sept. 4th after complications due to a routine throat surgery.

In addition to funny words, however, the 'Girls' actress shared heartfelt reflections on the "Fashion Police" host and renowned comic.

"May we all have such vitality, humor and heat well into our advanced years. May we all wear feathers and (faux) fur," she wrote.

Dunham also couldn't help but retweet a passage from River's 2012 book, "I Hate Everyone... Starting with Me," which was originally posted by New York Magazine's Jerry Saltz. In the excerpt addressed to Rivers' daughter Melissa, the comedienne explained that she wanted her funeral to be a true Hollywood affair.

"When I die (and yes, Melissa, that day will come; and yes, Melissa, everything's in your name), I want my funeral to be a huge showbiz affair with lights, cameras, action... I want Craft services, I want paparazzi and I want publicists making a scene! I want it to be Hollywood all the way. I don't want some rabbi rambling on; I want Meryl Streep crying, in five different accents. I don't want a eulogy; I want Bobby Vinton to pick up my head and sing 'Mr. Lonely.' I want to look gorgeous, better dead than I do alive. I want to be buried in a Valentino gown and I want Harry Winston to make me a toe tag. And I want a wind machine so that even in the casket my hair is blowing just like Beyoncé's."

Dunham did not have the smoothest relationship with Rivers. Joan made a habit of criticizing the 28-year-old writer/actress, particularly for her weight and penchant for shedding her clothes on her television series.

According to the NY Daily News, Rivers once said that if she had to see Dunham's "a--, boobs, or tattoos," again on "Girls," she would charge HBO with crimes against humanity. Rivers also suggested that if Dunham felt free enough to "have her fat a-on display," why shouldn't she feel "free enough to have a f---ing salad once in a while?"

But Dunham didn't let Rivers' past insults stop her from paying tribute to the woman who broke boundaries for many female comedians.

"Just gonna assume everyone telling me I'm ugly on twitter tonight is commemorating Joan Rivers and therefore I love you all," wrote Dunham.
