Michael C. Hall To Star In ‘Hedwig And The Angry Inch’: ‘Dexter’ Star To Play Transgender Lead In Broadway Play For Limited Run

Michael C. Hall will officially slip on some heels and douse himself in glitter this fall. The "Dexter" star is set to take over the lead role in "Hedwig and the Angry Inch" on Broadway.

But get your tickets fast. Hall's turn in "Hedwig" will be a very limited engagement.

Producers of the Broadway rock musical announced on Monday that Hall would be taking over for "Girls" star Andrew Rannells, who will take his last bow in the role on Oct. 12.

Neil Patrick Harris won a Tony Award earlier this year for his run as the fantastic transgender rocker lead, which ended in mid-August.

The musical, which is written by John Cameron Mitchell (book) and Stephen Trask (music and lyrics), tells the story of a glam rocker from East Berlin who suffers from a botched sex change.

Although the role will be a different character for Hall, the actor certainly has experience with musical theatre.

In addition to Hall's critically acclaimed television career, which includes starring roles in "Dexter" and "Six Feet Under," the actor has also earned praise for his work on the stage.  He made his Broadway debut in 1999 as the Emcee in a revival of "Cabaret." He also toured as Billy Flynn in a production of "Chicago" and starred on Broadway earlier this year in "The Realistic Joneses."

According to ABC News, Hall performed over 500 times in his starring singing role as the Emcee in "Cabaret."

Hall will take the stage as Hedwig from Oct. 16 through Jan. 4, 2015.

"Hedwig And The Angry Inch" is running at the Belasco Theatre in New York City.
