Powerball Winner Of $590 Million Jackpot Comes Forward After Two Weeks: Gloria MacKenzie Of Zephyrhills, FL

The winner of a huge $590 million Powerball jackpot has finally come forward. Gloria MacKenzie, the Powerball winner, waited two weeks to come forward after winning the record-breaking jackpot in Florida.

The announcement ends weeks of speculation.

The win was the second-largest Powerball jackpot ever. Under Florida law, MacKenzie's identity was disclosed, but she did not attend a news conference. She is from Zephyrhills, Florida and bought the ticket at a Publix supermarket near Zephyrhills, Florida, about 30 miles northest of Tampa. She is the winner of $590.5 million.

Mackenzie did not speak to reporters outside lottery headquarters. She left with family members in a silver Ford Focus.

However, Mackenzie told lottery officials that while she was waiting to buy the winning ticket, a kind stranger let her go in front of him, letting her receive the winning ticket. She also said she'd purchased four other tickets.

She chose to receive her winnings in a lump-sum payment of about $370 million.

The jackpot was the second biggest in history. The only bigger Powerball jackpot was the $656 million Mega Millions jackpot won in March 2012 by three ticket holders who pooled their tickets in Illinois, Kansas and Maryland.
