'So You Think You Can Dance' Recap: Memphis Auditions Gear Viewers Up For Vegas Round!

"So You Think You Can Dance" season 10 made its way to Memphis, Tennessee, in yesterday's episode. From hip-hop to ballroom to contemporary to...Mongolian bowl dance?

Here were the episode's highlights.

In addition to the usual suspects as panelists, executive producer Nigel Lythgoe and ballroom expert Mary Murphy, the third judge turned out to be comedian/actor Wayne Brady.

Together, they decided whether a dancer showed enough spark to get a plane ticket straight to Vegas, needed additional choreography testing, or needed to come back next year with better dancing.

The episode began with 19-year-old Dorian "BluPrint" Hector from the same crew as season 9's Cyrus, Dragon House.

"Absolutely superb," commented Nigel, though given BluPrint's fellow House-mates' performances in Vegas last season, he warned the dancer might be kicked out early due to lack of training. Still, the judges gave him a ticket for his sheer unique capabilities.

Curtis Holland, 18, came next to display his tap dancing skills, and his vivacious energy. His energy turned out to be so infectious that it garnered hug personal hug from Brady. The other judges felt Holland needed to learn to breathe and slow down a bit, and promptly sent him to choreography round.

Following Holland, an emotional clip about 22-year-old Tucker Knox came on, talking about his car accident which put his dancing career in danger. But Knox, now fully recovered, displayed his contemporary training in fine form.

"The way you dance right now is absolutely breathtaking," mused Mary. Enough said. Vegas!

We've all heard of dance Moms, but 18-year-old Courtney Thurston made her dance Dad proud with a beautiful modern routine against a Celine Dion number. The judges loved the fact that her Dad married her dancing teacher, and off to Vegas she goes.

After a series of impressive contemporary dancers, ShanShan Qiao-Rothlisberger debuted the Mongolian bowl dance on the show. The 25-year-old performed a fluid number with several bowls on her head, which wowed the judges, but not enough to let her skip the choreography round.

18-year-old Nico Greetham brought his own personal Mary in the form of his screaming mother.

"Papi is on the train!" screamed Mary after his controlled performance. Vegas.

The final performance of day one was trapeze instructor Elyse Frelinger, 23, who also impressed without the flying contraptions with her contemporary routine. The day ends with a final straight-to-Vegas ticket.

After choreography round, Curtis and Shanshan are given Vegas tickets.

Day two finally saw some ballroom action by starting with 18-year-old Jenna Johnson and her cha-cha routine with her underage partner. Mary was thoroughly impressed with the four-time national title winners and Johnson went straight to Vegas.

But Isabel Freiberger did not let her fellow Latin competitor get the best of her. The 26-year-old performed a salsa routine with moves even Mary had not seen before. Sadly, the tricks only got her to choreography round.

After the fiery performances came 20-year-old Caleb Brauner, the clown-styled contemporary dancer a la Teddy or Kent Boyd from previous seasons. The dancer not only made judges laugh, but also did some hip-hop with his loving father. Vegas!

Then came 29-year-old Larry Booze, a popper who glided across the stage like there was nothing to it. But as with most specialists, the judges wanted to see some additional choreography before giving him the ticket.

In one episode, Cyrus got brought up twice, this time because of his ex-girlfriend Jasmine Harper. She performed to a Destiny's Child version of "Amazing Grace" and brought her soul and technique to the table, enough to earn her a ticket to Vegas.

The final performer came with her very own Elvis impersonator/father, and 19-year-old Paige Pellicano danced showed her technique, but not the "magical piece" the judges wanted, and will have to wait for choreography.

Sadly, none of the featured dancers made it past choreography, including Mr. Booze, Isabel, and Paige.

But don't let the damper your spirits. Vegas week is next week and with over 200 dancers vying for the top 20 spots. Stay tuned for more "So You Think You Can Dance!"
