Truck Overturns Carrying 6,000 Gallons Of Scotch, Catches Fire In New Jersey

New Jersey often exudes different smells at different times of the day but if you are driving along the Garden State Parkway anytime soon, the fumes of 6,000 gallons of Scotch Whisky just might hit you as you glide down the highway.

No, it wasn't Snooky on one of her binges. It was a tanker truck filled with those thousands of gallons of Scotch whisky that overturned and caught fire on King Georges Road in the Ford's section of the Garden State.

The truck was driving through the mixed residential and commercial neighborhood  when it was making a turn and it "clipped a telephone pole, hit a parked Cadillac, and ignited," according to Chief Dan Gregan of the Fords Fire Company.

The truck driver suffered minor injuries and was not seriously injured, according to MyCentralJersey.com, and the neighborhood was not in danger, , Police Capt. Roy Hoppock said. It is not yet clear where the truck was headed.

NJ.com reports that firefighters were on the scene within minutes and quickly put out the fire. It is unclear if it was the diesel fuel, the scotch, or both that caught fire this morning.

The vehicle was owned by the B-Line Trucking in Newark, they said..

.

Chief Dan Gregan of the Fords Fire Co. said the truck was making a turn when it clipped a telephone pole, hit a parked Cadillac and ignited.

The township's Office of Emergency Management coordinator also responded to the scene, police said.
