Unlikely Guests Rapper Nelly And Rocker Lenny Kravitz Will Perform At 2013 CMT Music Awards

The CMT Music Awards is the only awards show to focus specifically on music videos of country artists, but that doesn't mean there won't be guests from other music genres. Rapper Nelly and rocker Lenny Kravitz will perform at the 2013 CMT Music Awards, demonstrating that crossovers in music are becoming the norm in the U.S.

The CMT Awards, which will air on Wednesday, will be hosted by platinum-selling country artist Jason Aldean and actress Kristen Bell, according to NBCNews.com. It will also feature an array of famous country singers, including Carrie Underwood, Keith Urban, Luke Bryan, Reba McEntire, Blake Shelton, and Taylor Swift.

CBS News reports that Nelly will perform the crossover hit "Cruise" with country duo Florida Georgia Line. This is a prime example of how the lines are blurring between American music genres. Nelly has also collaborated in the past with country singer Tim McGraw, in the 2004 song "Over and Over."

Nelly commented on the changing paths of music: "Obviously our views today aren't the same as our grandparents', so when you look at the way the youth migrates and the way everything intertwines, the Internet has brought so many people together around the world in the same place at the same time."

"Music was only in line to be integrated like that," the rapper continued. "It's a beautiful thing because you want your kids to be multifaceted. You want your kids to experience a lot more than you did as a child. So I welcome it. My kids are Taylor Swift fans. They love Florida Georgia Line. But they also love Lil Wayne."

Lenny Kravitz will perform with co-host Jason Aldean. Aldean is no stranger to working with artists from other genres. He sang a duet with Ludacris in 2011, called "Dirt Road Anthem."
