Keifer Sutherland To Play Snake In 'Metal Gear Solid 5: The Phantom Pain', Original Voice Actor David Hayter 'Fired' [VIDEO]

Solid Snake fans are getting the stylings of "24" actor Keifer Sutherland in the upcoming "Metal Gear Solid 5: The Phantom Pain" as opposed to David Hayter, who has voiced the character for English gamers since the series' inception.

During game developer Konami's pre-E3 show today, "Metal Gear" creator Hideo Kojima said the choice was because "the themes are a little different from previous games in the series," reported NBC News.

"We're taking on some heavy subjects, like race and revenge. As a result, I wanted Snake to have a more subdued performance expressed through subtle facial movements and tone of voice, rather than words."

Since the news, Hayter showed his support for Sutherland on Twitter, but not before alluding to the fact that he was "fired" from the franchise.

Since the news, a Facebook page titled "Bring Back David Hayter in Metal Gear Solid 5" has started with hundreds of members.

"The Phantom Pain," to be released for PS3 and Xbox 260, is reportedly set in 1984 and is "different from anything we've done before," promised Kojima.

Earlier in March, it was revealed that the game would feature open-world gameplay, reported Siliconera.

Previously, Sutherland has provided voice acting for "Call of Duty: World at War," "24: The Game," and "Street Fighter X Tekken."
