Jim Carrey Sells Malibu Home For $13.4 Million Days After Being Sued For Allegedly Failing To Carry Worker’s Compensation Insurance For New York Art Studio Employees

Jim Carrey has sold his Malibu home for a reported $13.4 million, days after being sued $72,000 for allegedly failing to provide worker's compensation insurance for employees at his art studio in New York, according to TMZ.

Although Jim Carrey originally posted the home for sale for $18 million in 2011, he lowered his asking price to $13.95 million last year.

The 51-year-old actor made a $3.65 million profit from his Malibu home, just enough to spot a fine he received from the Worker's Compensation Board of the State of New York on June 2nd.

Jim Carey founded the Church of FCC, his New York art studio, in 2011. But the Hollywood star was accused of not providing adequate and required insurance coverage to artists working at the studio as mandated by State law.

Workers' compensation law requires that 'employers obtain and continuously keep in effect workers' compensation coverage for all their employees', according to the Worker's Compensation Board website.

The group also reports that businesses must maintain a worker's compensation insurance policy or self-insurance for worker's compensation unless they are declared legally exempt.

Following the fine, one of Jim Carey's spokespeople told TMZ that the lawsuit is without merit and promised to take action to stop it.

"This is a clerical error on their part and will be cleared up immediately," Jim Carey's spokesperson told TMZ.

While the expected "Anchorman 2" actor didn't make as much money from his Malibu home sale as he would have liked to have pocketed, the money Jim Carey made is certainly enough to cover his recent mishap with the Worker's Compensation Board.
