Archie Comics Live-Action Movie: Despite Zombie Rumors, Writer Says Film Won’t Be ‘Archie And The Walking Dead’

Archie comics will be made into a live action movie produced by Roy Lee and Dan Lin and directed by Pitch Perfect's Jason Moore.

Warner Bros Pictures confirmed on Wednesday night that the iconic Archie Comics would be made into a live-action film, according to Deadline.

The screenplay, written by Glee's Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa, envisions a "high school comedy based on the original line of Archie Comics set in present-day Riverdale," Deadline reported.

However, rumors claim the Archie live-action movie could have a different, less conventional storyline.

Earlier this year, Aguirre-Sacasa signed on to write a new line of Archie Comics featuring flesh-eating zombies.

Aguirre-Sacasa's "Afterlife With Archie" series follows a plotline set in suburban New York, post-zombie Apocalypse. It's possible that the screenwriter will bring some of his new Archie-zombie conflict to the live-action film.

In March, Aguirre-Sacasa reportedly told Mike Fleming of Deadline that his zombie comic line "combines two of my great passions: Archie comics and horror comics."

But unfortunately for fans of zombies and the supernatural, Aguirre-Sacasa denied these rumors.

Aguirre-Sacasa said in an interview on Thursday, "It won't be 'Archie and the Walking Dead,'" according to Yahoo News.

"The idea for this is to capture a very truthful, authentic coming-of-age story with these kids that includes heartache, that includes pain, that will obviously temper the fun and the hijinks," Aguirre-Sacasa said. "It's going to be a fun - hopefully - summer movie, but we're not shying away from the truth and the awkwardness and the growing pains of being a teenager."

Although Aguirre-Sacasa and the production team seem to be staying away from the current public fascination with the undead, Warner Bros and Archie Comics are pleased with the live-action film's plans thus far.

"We're thrilled with the team that Warner Bros, Dan and Roy have put together here," said Archie Comics publisher and Co-CEO Jon Goldwater. "Roberto has become a prolific comics writer for us, and having Jason Moore is the icing on the cake as 'Pitch Perfect' is one of my favorite movies."

The Archie live-action feature film will be the first for the 72-year-old comic.
