Kids Given Alcoholic Mimosas At Brunch, Get Drunk, Hangovers: Parents Freak Out

Alcoholic mimosas aren't what most people want to give their kids. A Rochester, N.Y. couple was having a Sunday brunch with their kids when they realized something disturbing - the orange juice was spiked.

They say their kids got drunk from the alcoholic mimosas, slept all day, then got hangovers.

The incident took place at Bazil, a restaurant in Rochester, NY. Jeremy and Dawn DeRoo were eating brunch there, and claimed their 7-year-old said her orange juice tasted funny. Dawn didn't taste it; she thought it might just be a different brand and that her daughter was being fussy. So she told her daughter to drink it.

A while later, the DeRoos heard a couple at another table say that their juice tasted like mimosas.

Oops.

Suddenly, they realized there was alcohol in their kids' drinks and that the kids had been served mimosas instead of plain orange juice.

They said when they got home, the kids slept all day long and appeared to have hangovers on Monday.

The server apologized and replaced the children's mimosas with milk. Still, the DeRoos say, the manager never came to the table - and they're very unhappy over the incident.

The DeRoos even called the cops, but the police said mistakes happen. Jeremy DeRoo is still angry, saying "That's not good enough for parents having kids, drunk and sleeping all day," he told WHAM-TV. "It's not fair. These little kids shouldn't have any alcohol period."

Bazil's owner, Danny Daniele, who wasn't there that day, said it was the restaurant's first Sunday brunch. He said that the juice containers have now been re-labeled to avoid confusion.

Daniele said he offered to refund the cost of the family's meal. The DeRoos don't plan to sue - but they hope it never happens again. Drunk and hungover children are not something any parent wants to deal with.
