Erin Brockovich Arrested For Boating While Blood-Alcohol Level Was Twice The Legal Limit

Environmental activist Erin Brockovich was arrested for boating while intoxicated at Lake Mead near Las Vegas, Nevada. Breath tests revealed that Brockovich's blood-alcohol level was over twice the legal limit of .08, Edwin Lyngar, spokesman for the Nevada Department of Wildlife, told CBS News.

Brockovich became a household name after a 2000 movie starring Julia Roberts told the story of Brockovich's fight over the pollution in a town in California. Roberts won the Best Actress Oscar in 2001 for her portrayal of Brockovich, Yahoo! News reports.

According to ABC News, a game warden with the Nevada Department of Wildlife watched Brockovich struggle to dock her boat. He promptly arrested her under the suspicion of boating while intoxicated.

The Nevada Department of Wildlife said Brockovich "exhibited several signs showing that she was an intoxicated boater."

"She was not sure how to maneuver the boat into the dock," Lyngar told The Associated Press. "It's a simple thing if you can think clearly. But if you add alcohol and unfamiliarity of the area, it can all cause serious problems."

Brockovich explained that she did not operate the boat in open waters and that she was not alone on the boat, stating that "there was no public safety risk."

But she quickly apologized for her behavior: "That being said, I take drunk driving very seriously, this was clearly a big mistake, I know better and I am very sorry. After a day in the sun and with nothing to eat it appears that a couple of drinks had a greater impact than I had realized."

Brockovich was released from the Clark County Detention Center after posting $1,000 bail.
