Google Doodle Honors 85th Birthday Of Maurice Sendak, Deceased Author of “Where The Wild Things Are" [VIDEO]

Google pays tribute to children's author Maurice Sendak, who died last year at age 83, with an animated video of his famous illustrations on the Google Doodle on its homepage. Today would have been Sendak's 85th birthday.

Once you click on the arrow above Max's head, the main character of Sendak's famous 1963 book "Where the Wild Things Are," he takes you on an adventure through Sendak's literary career. Max and his fanged monster friends, the Wild Things, walk through Sendak's most creative book illustrations, from "In the Night Kitchen" to "Bumble-Ardy."

Befitting for Sendak's birthday today, the video, which is formatted as a spinning wheel, concludes with the birthday party scene from "Bumble-Ardy," Time reports.

In multiple interviews, Sendak stressed his love for his work, and the satisfaction and fulfillment this gave him with life.

"It's the only true happiness I've ever, ever enjoyed in my life," Sendak said in the 2009 HBO documentary about him, "Tell Them Anything You Want," The Washington Post reports. "It's sublime to just go into another room and make pictures. It's magic time where all your weaknesses of character, and all blemishes of personality, and whatever else torments you fades away, just doesn't matter."

To simplify, he said: "You're doing the one thing you want to do and you do it well, and you know you do it well, and you're happy."

Sendak passed away last May, in Connecticut, after suffering a stroke.
