5-Year-Old Tornado Survivor Dies After Dog Attack: Family Friend's Bullmastiff Gets Put Down After Brutal Mauling

A 5-year-old survivor of the devastating tornado in Moore, Oklahoma last month has been killed by a family friend's dog Sunday, and the dog has in turn been put down.

After the tornado that killed 24 people and injured over 400, the deceased boy and his 2-year-old sister relocated to Jessieville, Arkansas, while their parents worked to rebuild their home.

"To me, it's heartbreaking," opined Garland County Deputy Scott Hinojosa, according to NBC News.

"I've got a 5-year-old daughter. You can't imagine what this family and friends are going through right now."

According to the police report, the boy got upset and began crying and throwing a tantrum, which the Bullmastiff took as a sign of aggression.

50-year-old Lynn Geiling, the dog's owner, allegedly tried to pull the dog off the boy but was too late.

The boy was rushed to Mercy Hospital in Hot Springs with lacerations on his head and neck, and was subsequently pronounced dead.

After running away following the attack, the Bullmastiff has since been found and shot by Lynn's friend, reported Arkansas Matters.

"Animal control came out yesterday and told us about it and told us to be on the lookout," said Jessieville resident Paige Parks.

"Everybody's been out.  My neighbors were walking down the street [with guns] this morning like they were going hunting."

The Bullmastiff's body was discovered Monday afternoon by Parks' Labrador mix.
