Pokemon X And Y Update: October 12 Release Date, Pokemon-Amie Mini-Game, And Fairy-Type Confirmation

As previously expected, E3 brought a slew of news for Pokemon X and Pokemon Y, including its October 12 worldwide release date and the new fairy-type.

Nintendo's mega-franchise will reportedly have a simultaneous worldwide release, which is a first for the series. This was revealed during the Nintendo Direct presentation on Tuesday.

In addition, the already introduced Sylveon, has introduced fans to the 18th Pokemon type, the fairy-type. Fairy-type Pokemon are super effective against dragons.

Normal-type Jigglypuff, psychic-type Gardevoir, and water-type Marill have all been retroactively included in the new family, reports IGN. Whether they'll retain their existing type is yet to be confirmed.

In addition, a new feature called Pokemon-Amie will also be included, which allows gamers to pet, feed, and take care of their Pokemon to strengthen the trainer's relationship with their Pokemon. Whether the trainer's relationship with his or her Pokemon will affect battle has yet to be discussed.

Two new Pokemon, Noivern and Vivillon have also been revealed.

Noivern is a flying/dragon Pokemon "that is extremely combative and will attack anything that wanders too close to it. Flying through the dark night with ease, Noivern uses the ultrasonic waves it emits from its ears to attack," says the official description.

"These waves are so strong they can reduce large boulders to small pebbles. A new Normal-type move in Pokémon X and Pokémon Y that perfectly suits Noivern is Boomburst. This move emits an explosive sound wave that attacks all surrounding Pokémon with the resulting energy."

Vivillon is a bug/flying Pokemon with a "colorful decorative pattern [to] scatter its scales or create a strong wind to attack."

With more presentations exclusive to Pokemon to come, no doubt there will be other news. Stay tuned!
