Joselyn Martinez, Bronx Model, Tracks Down Father’s Alleged Killer After 27 Years: Used MySpace And Social Media To Track Murderer Down

Joselyn Martinez, a model and aspiring actress from The Bronx, N.Y., tracked down her father's alleged killer after 27 years using MySpace and other social media to locate him.

Police Commissioner Ray Kelly lauded Joselyn Martinez for her efforts at researching the case and leading police to arrest the man who allegedly killed her father in 1986, according to the New York Post.

"I applaud her. It's admirable what she did," Kelly told the New York Post.

"Obviously she made a concerted effort and it paid off, and we appreciate it."

The suspect, Justo Santos, was captured by police in Miami on Tuesday and charged with the murder of José "George" Martínez, the New York Post reports.

Santos exiled himself from New York after the 1986 incident and fled to the Dominican Republic, where he was later arrested for a separate incident.

Joselyn Martinez decided to pick up the case herself and asked police for information on the suspect so she could begin searching for him using social media sites, like MySpace, to track him down. She also used background check sites, forcing her to pay several hundreds of dollars to investigate the suspect.

"In 2004, when I started using MySpace, that's when I got into using social media" to try and find him, she told the New York Post.

"They all had it. They had his address. They had his phone number," she told the New York Daily News.

After collecting all of the information she gathered from the social media sites, she was able to compile enough information to hand over to the New York Police Department and begin tracking the suspect down for the arrest.
