Is Penelope Cruz Too Pregnant Or Too Old To Play The New Bond Girl?

A very pregnant Penelope Cruz was recently in the news amid rumors that she has been tapped to be the new Bond girl. If rumors are true, the 39-year-old actress will be the oldest ever Bond girl to star in the franchise.

Spanish actress Cruz is expecting her second child in late summer or early fall with husband Javier Bardem. Bardem played the villain in the successful and latest James Bond film "Skyfall," released last year and directed by Sam Mendes. Cruz and Bardem are already parents to 2-year-old Leonardo, who was born January 2011, six months after the couple were married in the Bahamas, Us Weekly reports.

Speaking about her second pregnancy in February 2013, Cruz gushed that she was "tremendously happy and excited" to welcome a younger sibling for her son, Us Weekly says.

Cruz was recently spotted in Madrid wearing a tight Rolling Stones T-shirt, showing off her huge baby bump. She also wore a black leather jacket, jeans, and sunglasses, looking like a rocker herself and flaunting her pregnancy curves.

According to Mstars News, a source said Penelope will have plenty of time to get back into shape before filming for the 24th Bond film.

"She got back into shape fast after the first baby and will no doubt regain her figure quickly this time," the source said. "She'll be a great Bond girl. Bond girls are always brainy as well as sexy, and that's totally Penelope."

Cruz allegedly turned down previous offers to be a Bond Girl due to scheduling issues and other work commitments.

An inside source told Mstars News: "The producers have tried to get Penelope before, but she has never been available because of other commitments. The discussions have been going on for some time and they are working out the contract details now."

If Cruz agrees to the role, she will be acting alongside her husband Bardem, who is rumored to return for the next installment of the Bond franchise, as well as 007 star Daniel Craig.

The oldest Bond girl was British actress Honor Blackman, who was 39 when she appeared in 1962's Goldfinger as Pussy Galore. By the time filming begins for the newest Bond film, Cruz will be 40 years old.
