iPad 5, iPad Mini 2 Release Date: Apple Will Slash $100 Off New iPad Mini Models, iPad 5 Will Make iPad 2 Obsolete

Rumors of a pending release of an iPad 5 and iPad Mini 2, if realized, will cause a significant shift in the product lineup of the company’s tablet line.

The International Business Times reports that Citi Research’s Glen Yeung in a note to investors wrote that Apple is preparing to launch three new iPad models, including a cheaper iPad mini.

The release of iPad 5 will end the production of the iPad 4 and iPad 2, thus changing the pricing and lineup of the Apple iPad.

Numerous rumors have surfaced saying that Apple will release the iPad 5, iPad Mini 2 and a cheaper iPad Mini this year. The Business Times noted this will serve as triple threat for its rivals.

Aside from greatly talked about iPad 5 and iPad Mini 2, Apple will also release a low cost table the size of an iPad Mini.

According to a recent investor’s note from CitiResearch, the next generation of iPad Mini will have a lower price with the goal of beating the Android-based tablets.

Apple would potentially slash $100 off the current iPad Mini model, enabling the Cupertino tech giant to go head to head with cheaply priced Anroid tablets.

The approach is similar to the price reduction of Amazon with its Kindle devices, which has enabled it to sustain its dominant footing in the e-readers market.

Jeremy Horwitz of iLounge said that the upcoming fifth generation of the iPad will come around October; the blogger is known for his accuracy in predicting launch dates for new Apple gadgets.

He also said, as reported by the Business Times, the company is targeting an October release “give or take a couple of weeks” of the iPad 5. The original plan to release the next-generation device was March.

Many believe that since the iOS 7 has been introduced, the launch for the new iPhones and iPad will coincide with its release date, which is this fall.

In line with tradition, Apple does not comment on pending product launches or products in-development.
