Man of Steel Reviews: Is Superman Henry Cavill a Convincing Clark Kent? [PHOTOS] 'Man of Ste Trailer, Henry Cavill Superman Movie Flies Into Theaters [WATCH NOW]

Man of Steel, the new Superman movie, recently bagged the Spike TV Guys Choice Awards' "Most Anticipated Movie of the Year." What are the early Superman reviews saying about Henry Cavill's titular character?

Superman reviews at Rottentomatoes are currently averaging a rating of 6.4 out of 10, according to Fashion and Style. This figure is not bad, but definitely not good based on all the hype surrounding Man of Steel 2013. Apparently, many critics found the movie to be lacking in thrill factor.

"We keep waiting to thrill, to exult, to cheer our hero on. When the lights come up, we're still waiting," writes Glen Weldon of NPR.

"There is a lot to like about Man of Steel ... but it could be better," writes Joshua Starnes of ComingSoon.net.

Henry Cavill has some of the best, most supportive fans on Twitter. They have been drawing the spotlight to Cavill for the role of Christian Grey ("Fifty Shades of Grey") and Gideon Cross ("Crossfire") for quite a while now. They are also the happiest when Cavill earns recognition for what he does.

But the resulting Man of Steel film was not entirely up to Superman himself. Cavill went through 'workout hell' to look good, and no reviewer has so far pointed out a definitely lack of acting skills. Others have, however, casted some doubt.

"It's tempting to think that another actor might have done things Mr. Cavill can't, but there's no way of knowing, given Mr. Snyder's stiff direction and the generally turgid dialogue," writes Joe Morgenstern of the Wall Street Journal.

What most early reviews are saying is, they wanted more - more thrill, powerful impact, more huge new moments. David Goyer, who wrote the Man of Steel screenplay, teamed up Christopher Nolan for the story. The movie was directed by Zack Snyder. Naturally, people had high expectations.

Superman as Man of Steel 2013 may be far from perfect. It might be more forgettable than disappointing, though. Sometimes movies that are very, very bad are more easily remembered for being so. But this one is somewhere in the middle, slightly leaning to the weak side.
