Miley Cyrus' 'We Can't Stop': Singer Talks Collaboration With Pharrell & Will.i.am, New Single Originally For Rihanna, Being 'White Nicki Minaj'

With "We Can't Stop" as the first single released from her upcoming album, Miley Cyrus is making a comeback with a whole different persona.

In an interview with Billboard Magazine, Cyrus stressed that she doesn't want to be viewed as the teen queen she once was.

"I want to start as a new artist. I consider my upcoming album my first, really," said the former Disney star.

Coming in at No. 11 on the Hot 100 this week, "We Can't Stop" is something totally unexpected from the former Hannah Montana. The song is filled with lyrics glorifying "twerking" and drugs.

The producer of Cyrus' new single, Mike Will Made It, told Billboard that the song was orginally for Rihanna. However, Miley says the song illustrates what she has done in real-life.

"I'm 20 years old and I want to talk to the people that are up all night with their friends. It's based on a true story of a crazy night I had: When I heard the song for the first time, it captured exactly what I was living."

Although Miley loves the urban style of music, she made it apparent that she is in no way trying to be a rapper.

"A lot of people wanted to try to make me the white Nicki Minaj," Cyrus said. "That's not what I'm trying to do. I love 'hood' music, but my talent is as a singer."

Keeping her country-rock flare in the new album, Miley also got in touch with her urban style.

"It's not a hip-hop album, though-it's a pop album. It's more like, 'I don't see any girls out there doing what Miguel and Frank Ocean are doing,'" said the songstress.

Before working with Will.i.am and Dr. Luke on tracks like "We Can't Stop" and "Stand by Me" featuring Future, Miley credit Pharrell for gearing her up for this new journey when they united in Miami.

"We wanted to make something really different," she says. "He [Pharrell] came to my house, and I didn't have shoes on-I don't put a show on for anybody. He said, 'This is why I love you: You're just wild and free, and I want to capture that.'"

Miley Cyrus' album will hit stores this Fall.
