Charice Pempengco 2013: ‘I’m The Lesbian’ Says Mom Of Former Glee Star, Claims She ‘Changed’ For Charice And Family

After former Glee Star and singing sensation Charice Pempengco revealed in an interview early this month that she’s a lesbian, her mom is saying she too was once a lesbian but changed for Charice and family.

“I’m the lesbian,” she said in her native language Tagalog to Filipino news program, Bandila.

"I'm the lesbian -- until my mom sent me off to my husband and [Charice's] father. I told Charice this before, I told her that I experienced what it's like, too. But then I changed."

Raquel decided to publicly divulge this intimate detail about her life because of the backlash she has faced since Charice revealed that she’s gay.

"I spoke out because I couldn't take the accusations that I couldn't accept my daughter," Raquel said. "If there's one person who knows what it's like, it's me. But as you can see, I kept it hidden for so many years, because I didn't want to destroy her."

In Charice’s interview with Filipino talk show host Boy Abunda, she said that her mother is having difficulty accepting she’s gay. The young star is estranged from her mother and brother and is living at a friend’s house, according to The Philippine Star.

In an attempt to build bridges with her daughter once again, Racquel penned an open letter to her daughter.

She wishes the days back when they had no money but were together.

The letter was published by ABS-CBN News in the Philippines. She wrote, "I've been thinking that maybe it would have been better to go back to how things were, back when we were struggling, during the days when we would cry frequently and travel often together.”

“At least back then, it was very clear to me who truly loved us. At least then, the three of us were still together against the challenges of life."

She added, "I pray that everyone involved in this situation will see the truth. At the end of the day, after God, family is still the place we can run to. Friends will come and go, and they will pass -- but [my son] and I believe that family are the people you can run to because they were given to us even before we were born. They are the people who will be with us, take care of us, love us even if we can't offer anything in return."

In an interview with blog Interkasyon, Charice said she’s currently dating X-Factor Philippine star contestant, Alyssa Quijano.

The singer who was called by Oprah as “the most talented girl in the world” is scheduled to do performances in Indonesia and Germany this year. She is also currently working on her third studio album in the Philippines.
