Samsung Galaxy Users Have First Dibs On New Jay Z Album 'Magna Carta Holy Grail' [VIDEO]
Jay-Z recently revealed that the first one million Samsung Galaxy S3, Galaxy S4, or Galaxy Note 2 owners will be able to snag his upcoming album "Magna Carta Holy Grail" for free before its official release date by downloading a special app.
The Samsung Magna Carta app comes out June 24th, but recipients won't be able to share Jay-Z's music until July 4th.
For non- Galaxy users the "Magna Carta Holy Grail" album release date is July 7th. The smartphone company has brought one million copies of the album at $5 a piece. This means Jay-Z has sold a million copies and made $5 million in revenue before the album has been released. He is the first artist to do so in history.
The announcement was made on Sunday night during Game 5 of the NBA Finals. A three minute video aired during the end of the second quarter featuring Jay-Z, Rick Rubin, Pharrell Williams, and Timbaland with a tagline that says "Next Big Thing."
This collaboration between Samsung and Jay-Z can benefit both parties. The partnership could help Samsung compete with Apple, which just recently divulged the launch of iTunes Radio. Besides the monetary gain for Jay-Z, this corporate sponsorship gives rise to sales in the music industry.
