Google Glass Release Date: Custom Fitting Required For AR Lens, Explorer Program Users Share Their Glass Orientation Experience

The largest distribution of the highly anticipated AR lens Google Glass occurred early this month and newly minted Glass owners share the process of obtaining the hyped-up AR lens.

The tech giant began distributing the $1500 test units to participants of the Google Glass Explorer program in California.

Individual appointments are necessary for the custom fitting of Glasses, according to the blog Design&Trend. The custom fitting is similar to traditional fittings of normal glasses.

Mimosa and a crew of Google Glass studio workers await the future Glass owners when they arrive to pick up their glasses.

Catwig.com, whose founders picked up their Glass at Google’s Mountain View office shared their experience on getting the Glass.

“Inside, in a space called ‘The Garage’, a temporary retail-showroom-like space had been set up with tables, stools, and mirror stands, where staff members walked Glass Explorers through the software features of their new face computers,” they wrote on their site.

They said that a friendly greeter takes future Glass owners to the Glass Studio, offering mimosas, and showing the device color selection on the wall, which they can try.

The spectrum of available color options includes Charcoal, Tangerine, Shale, Cotton and Sky.

What follows after you have selected your Glass is 45 minutes of user interface training. The training includes setup, phone pairing, and linking Google accounts.

The tech site also said that Glass comes in an attractive, easy-to-open box and includes several accessories: Tinted shield, clear shield, charger/AC adapter, USB cable, drawstring case.

The release of the Glasses this month marks a milestone in the gadget's release, as it has now been placed in the hands or eyes of a wide number of users.

The Explorer phase enables several thousand participants, who have applied through Google+ and Twitter earlier this year, to experience Google Glass.

The Explorer program has a $1,500 entrance fee, which includes the device. Many speculate that the actual price of the face computer will be far less than what the Glass Explorers paid for.

A select group of individual, comprising mostly of developer and tech’s most influential media personalities, signed up for the Glass at the I/O 2012 and have received their units.

Google Glass is still very much a pre-release product, but a new update of the gadget was given last May 8.

Its latest updated includes the ability to add captions on images and take higher quality images with the Glass’ camera function.

The Cupertino tech giant noted that it already has all the participants it needs for the testing phase, and the next Google Glass release will be for the consumer launch of the AR gadget.
