Instagram Rumor: Photo-Sharing App To Add Video Sharing Feature To Compete With Vine?

An Instagram rumor says that the most popular photo-sharing mobile software will add a short-video sharing feature to its services, like that of the popular Vine app.

The Instagram rumor is quickly spreading. According to a report from Ars Technica, Instagram and Facebook are already working on a new feature that will be offered by the photo-sharing application.

The Instagram app rumor states that users will soon be able to take videos and share short clips using the app. This feature is similar to the main functionality of Vine, which is basically a six-second video and gif-maker that was released months ago.

The Verge reported that a few weeks ago, Matthey Perry, the former social media editor of Reuters, said that  Facebook was currently testing a video-sharing service like Vine for its Instagram app, which would allow users to post videos that are about 5-10 seconds long. Because of the success during the testing stage, rumors are now saying that the two companies are already planning to unveil their newest Instagram offering in Menlo Park, CA during a June 20 event.

The Verge said that it would make a lot of sense for Instagram to add a video-sharing feature, since the daily shares for the Vine app are currently increasing on Twitter, surpassing Instagram's record. Also, many social media campaigns are now using Vine to help them with marketing.

Twitter bought the Vine app last October and since its debut in January, it has been able to successfully penetrate the app world, giving users a quick way to record and share videos online. Though Vine has had problems with porn video sharing, it was still able to grow, as evidenced by the recent release of the Android version of the app.

Details provided about video-sharing feature of Instagram are still scanty but all the Instagram rumors spreading online will be cleared during the June 20 Facebook event in Menlo Park.
