Free Games For Xbox Live Gold Members: Download Assassin’s Creed 2 Starting July 16; Fans Unhappy With ‘Games With Gold’ Promotion?

Microsoft giving away free games for Xbox Live gold members seems to be such a sweet deal, right? However, why is it that there are fans who are already starting to get disappointed with "Games with Gold" promotion?

During Microsoft's E3 2013 press conference, it was revealed by Senior Vice President Yusuf Mehdi that they will give away 2 free games for Xbox Live Gold members each month starting July. Assassin's Creed 2 and Halo 3 were featured during the Electronic Entertainment Expo event as two of the free games that will be part of the Games With Gold promotion. Fans assumed that these two titles will be the first free games to be given away by the Xbox Live program, but they were mistaken.

Although it was already confirmed that Assassin's Creed 2 will be featured for free in the Games With Gold promotion from July 16-31, hearing about what the other game for this month did make the fans disappointed. As revealed, it was "Defense Grid: The Awakening" that will be paired with Assassin's Creed 2, and the former is available now for 0 MP in Xbox Live Marketplace.

A post from Cheat Code Central (CCC) by Josh Engen stated, "Don't get me wrong, Defense Grid is a great game, but it's a ten-dollar indie title, while AC2 and Halo 3 are both huge, triple-A games. If Mehdi had used Defense Grid as the poster boy for the Games with Gold promotion, the Sony fanboys wouldn't have been able to stop giggling."

PlayStation Plus is Sony's program that gives away free games for its paying members and currently, there are 18 amazing titles being offered such as XCOM: Enemy Unknown, Saints Row: The ThirdLittleBigPlanet Karting, and Uncharted 3: Drake's Deception. The article noted, "in light of the PlayStation Plus lineup, it's hard to be excited for Defense Grid."

Games with Gold, from which 2 free games for Xbox Live gold members will be given per month is not a forever offering ( another disappointment for the fans?), as it will only run until Xbox One's release, which is already slated November of this year. But Microsoft said, that there are chances that free-games promotion will extend, depending on how to the program goes.
