J. Cole ‘Born Sinner’ No. 1 On Billboard 200 Album Chart; First Time In Billboard History Three Rap Albums Hold Top Spots For Three Consecutive Weeks

J.Cole's album "Born Sinner" took the No.1 spot on the Billboard 200 album chart. It also marked the first time in Billboard history that three rap albums held the top spots for three consecutive weeks. With Jay-Z's album to drop next week, this will likely continue the historical trend.

J. Cole's "Born Sinner" album nabbed the No. 1 spot on the Billboard 200 album chart three weeks after its release, a rare move in the music industry. Last week, the Roc Nation artist sold 58,000 records, which is only down 33% from the week before, HNHH reports.

Now, for the first time in Billboard history, three rap albums have held the top spots for three consecutive weeks, according to HNHH.

The first week, Kanye, J.Cole, and Mac Miller held the top three slots. The week after, the order was Wale, J.Cole, and Kanye. And this past week, J. Cole's "Born Sinner" was No. 1, Wale's "The Gifter" was at No. 2, and Kanye's "Yeezus" at No. 3.

Jay-Z's highly anticipated album "Magna Carta Holy Grail" drops next week, and will most likely easily take the top spot in the Billboard 200 album chart. This will make another week go down in history.

There were only two others times when the top three Billboard 200 slots were filled by rap albums for consecutive weeks. In 2002, Nelly, Eminem and Nas dominated spot #1, #2 and #3, which was followed by Nelly, Eminem and the compilation Irv Gotti Presents The Inc, HNHH reports.

Another historical week happened this summer: the week of June 18th was memorable because each hip-hop album that dropped broke the 100,000 mark, which included Kanye, J.Cole, and Mac Miller's albums.

Now we just have to wait for Jay-Z's album to drop to mark the first time four different rap albums have continuously sat at the top spots on the Billboard chart.
