Mazzy Star New Album Release Date Sept. 24; First Album In 17 years Features Guest Musicians and Hope Sandoval's Sensual Voice (Video)

Mazzy Star’s new album release date is Sept. 24. Mazzy Star will release their first album, Seasons Of Your Day, in 17 years. This is Mazzy Star’s fourth album. The new Mazzy Star album will feature the late Bert Jansch and Colm ó Cíosóig, the drummer of My Bloody Valentine. To celebrate the announcement, Mazzy Star released a new single, “California,” which SPIN magazine compared to Led Zeppelin’s “Going to California.” Mazzy Star last record was "Among My Swan" released in 1996.

The new Mazzy Star album, called "Seasons Of Your Day," is the first album the dreamy acoustic pop band has put out in 17 years. The new Mazzy Star album was recorded in Norway and California. “Seasons of Your Day” has been described as "music for lovers, music for broken hearts." Mazzy Star released the album's lead single, “California,” yesterday. Hope Sandoval voice hasn’t lost any of its dusky sensuality. She give a wistful performance over acoustic guitars before bongs break through. She sings "I think I hear the bells ringing in the square. California, oh California."

Led by singer Hope Sandoval and guitarist David Roback, all of the band's original members are playing on the record. “Seasons Of Your Day” will also feature a guest appearance by folk icon Bert Jansch who died in 2011. Jansch was Scottish folk musician and founding member of the band Pentanglem. He was a leading figure in the British folk music revival of the 1960s and recorded at least 25 albums. Also playing on the record is My Bloody Valentine drummer Colm ó Cíosóig. Colm played on Hope Sandoval’s solo albums in the early 2000s. After Mazzy Star stopped performaning Hope Sandoval formed the band The Warm Inventions in 2000 and put out her first solo album “Bavarian Fruit Bread” in 2001, which featured both Colm ó Cíosóig and Bert Jansch on guitar on two tracks,

Mazzy Star first broke through in 1994 with the song "Fade Into You." The song hit number at 44 on the Billboard’s Hot 100 chart. It hit the top five on the magazine's Modern Rock chart. There have been rumors of a new Mazzy Star record since 2009. In an interview with Sandoval last year, the singer teased "It's true we're still together. We're almost finished [with the record]. But I have no idea what that means." The band put out some new music in 2011, and went on tour last year. The band plans to embark on a full North American and European tour this fall.

Although two of their albums hit the Top 50, Mazzy Star never fully broke throught to the mainstream, they stayed a cult act. Sandoval collaborated with other musicians, including the Chemical Brothers, Air and the Jesus and Mary Chain. She performed at two All Tomorrow's Parties festivals, curated by Jim Jarmusch and Matt Groening.
