Matt Smith, Colin Baker Support Female 12th Doctor Who: 'You're In For Some Serious Revelations'

As "Doctor Who" prepares for the 50th Anniversary and Christmas Special, current and former Doctors are voicing their support for the 12th Doctor to be female.

The Sixth Doctor, Colin Baker, believes that no controversy should be made should the next Doctor be a woman.

"Leaving aside the controversy about whether it should be female or not, and I happen to believe there's absolutely no reason why it shouldn't. If the Doctor has twelve incarnations, surely he must be in touch with his feminine side to a certain extent?" says Baker to Flicks and the City.

"But I think the most appropriate person to play the new Doctor is someone like Matt Smith that we've never heard of before who makes us all go 'Yes! That's the Doctor!"

Sadly, Matt Smith will be leaving "Doctor Who" after the 50th Anniversary and Christmas Special, leaving season 8 up to a new face to portray the 12th incarnation of the Doctor.

"I feel like I already know how it ends. There's a golden light, open a TARDIS, put my arms out... and then I turn into a woman!" teases Smith during a recent Comic-Con interview according to Den of Geek.

"He's an alien, or she's an alien. It doesn't matter. The Doctor is a complete alien ... It can be anyone, and that's the great thing about the part. There's so many female actresses who'd be amazing."

And to go along with such fervent support, names like Helen Mirren and Olivia Colman have been dropped as potential candidates for the next Doctor, though of course, they are simply rumors.

Truth be told, Steven Moffat will probably dangle the rumors and delay the official announcement as late as possible to keep the anticipation going until season 8 premieres next year.

Perhaps some big news will be made once the 50th Anniversary Special finally airs this November.
