Demi Lovato Speaks Out About Cory Monteith's Death: He "Couldn't Help" Relapse, But Heart Broken For Lea Michelle

Demi Lovato spoke about Cory Monteith's death, saying he "couldn't help it".

Lovato, 20, is no stranger to substance abuse and mental health issues. Now, Lovato revealed what she thought of Glee star Cory Monteith's death. She said,

"All it takes is one moment of vulnerability to get slipped into your addiction,"

The X-Factor judge thinks that Monteith didn't choose to die from a mixture of heroin and alcohol in a Vancouver hotel room next week.

"He didn't choose to die. It was the disease. It can creep up on you at any moment. It only takes one moment of relapse to potentially die. It's really scary, but I'm really hoping that from this, people are able to see this is a very, very, very dangerous disease," Lovato said.

And Lovato said she hopes the Cory Monteith tragedy will spread awareness. Lovato launched the Lovato Treatment Scholarship Program in June as part of an effort to help others get treatment for their issues.

Lovato went to rehab in 2011 for physical and emotional issues including substance abuse, bulimia, and cutting. She said,

"Promoters gave me drugs and alcohol in restaurants or clubs. They wanted me to come back so I would be seen there ... Being a celebrity can be dangerous. Nobody says 'no.' That's why so many end up overdosing and dying. It could definitely have happened to me."

Demi said her heart is "really, really broken" over Cory Monteith's death. And she said she also is very sympathetic toward his girlfriend, Lea Michelle.

"The main person in my thoughts is Lea," Lovato says. "I am praying for her so hard and I love her so much. I'm wishing her a lot of strength right now.

Lovato, the "Skyscraper" singer, says she still deals with her issues daily and is limited in many ways. She's not like the "normies,"  she says.

"They can turn 21 and have their turn-21st-birthday," Bovato told press. "I don't think that I - I just don't put myself in those situations where I'm going to be at those 21st birthdays. I don't go to clubs. I just know it's something I can't do without being triggered. And that's okay."

Cory Monteith's death could have been prevented-but it also wasn't his fault, Demi Lovato said.
