'Veronica Mars' Gives a Glimpse of Things to Come at Comic-Con; Got That Godfather 3 Vibe, yeah, 3 (Video)

“Veronica Mars” fans, who call themselves “Marshmallows,” got a sneak peak at the upcoming movie that they paid for at Comic-Con this weekend. The cult teen sleuth TV show is being made with Kickstarter money from fans who wouldn’t let it die. “Veronica Mars” has a “Godfather 3” vibe to it. Yes, 3, as they would say on “The Sopranos,” not “Godfather 2,”which everyone says is the better movie, but 3, which everyone jumped on for its casting, which included Francis Ford Coppola’s daughter Sofia, but didn’t afford Robert Duvall.

No matter, “Veronica Mars” fans were pretty pissed when the show disappeared from TV screens in 2007, leaving a mystery behind that only someone like Veronica Mars could solve. A recent Kickstarter campaign pulled in $5.7 million so they could make a follow up film. Rob Thomas, the producer, said it was a good opportunity to tie up the loose ends. But once those loose ends are tied up, he wants to go forward with it. Thomas hopes the Veronica Mars will be the first of a lot of movies. He said, “I want to be a Bond franchise.”

"Veronica Mars' fans, the "Marshmallows," got a sneak peak of the film at San Diego Comic-Con.

In the introductory lead up to the teaser Kristen Bell says "Fans are cool, but 'Veronica Mars' fans are awesome." The trailer also features behind-the-scenes footage and interviews.

Rob Thomas, Kristen Bell and the rest of the Neptune High crew, Jason Dohring, Enrico Colantoni, Francis Capra and Tina Marjorino were all at Comic-Con, Rob Thomas told the “Marshamallows” the film was inspired by "Godfather III."

The film version wraps Monday. "Veronica Mars" hits theaters in 2014.
