Doctor Who 50th Anniversary Special [RUMORS]: Captain Jack Appearance, John Hurt, And The Time Wars

Now that the San Diego Comic-Con is over, much has been discussed and danced around regarding "Doctor Who" and its 50th Anniversary Special, including Captain Jack and the identity of John Hurt's character.

During the "Doctor Who" panel, Matt Smith, Jenna-Louise Coleman, producers Steven Moffat, Mark Gatiss, and Marcus Wilson promise the 50th Anniversary will answer many questions.

"There are certain things we've been setting up for a very long while...that we will be resolving in the 50th, in Matt's final episode."

Does this mean the long-running storyline regarding The Silence will be resolved?

During the panel, a 50th Anniversary trailer was shown with the tag line, "This fall, the Doctor will face his darkest day: himself."

This seems to directly address John Hurt's role, as the most popular theory is that he is playing the "time war Doctor" which exists between Paul McGann and Christopher Eccleston's iterations. Of course, John Hurt's role was unconfirmed by the panel, but it seems almost certain to be the case.

And what does Matt Smith have to say about his imminent leave?

"It's been the most fabulous journey. I'm very proud of what we've all achieved and we've made great friends. I think we'll try and make the Christmas Special one of the best, most inventive, brilliant movie...I'm determined to make it a real belter."

One of the interesting highlights of the panel is the question about Captain Jack, and whether the character will make an appearance in the 50th Anniversary Special.

"I've lied my arse off for months - you know nothing, so don't make presumptions."
