Google Chrome Update, News: Windows Phone Users May Soon Have Browser Available; ‘Hoping That Large Parts Of The Code Can…Build Chrome For WP 8’ Says Engineer

Google Chrome update, news: Windows Phone 8 users may soon have Google Chrom on their devices. In a report by Phone Arena, citing Google Code and Win Beta as sources, it reported that Google is now seemingly putting resources into developing apps for the Microsoft mobile phone platform.

The first step, Phone Arena noted, for Google is to test whether it is even possible. One Google engineer by the name of Carlos Pizzano, opened a ticket in the Chromium open sources project in order for other developers to look into the possibility.

"Now that the Chrome team has developed a Chrome Metro/Modern UI version for Windows 8, I'm hoping that large parts of the code can be recycled to build Chrome for WP8,” the request indicates. The request from Pizzano has been on the Chromium forums since October 2012 and hasn’t seen any activity until two days ago. The developer in charge of a related report to bring Chrome to Windows Phone 7 passed on ownership of the project to a developer named Dxie.

A key impediment to getting Chrome on Windows Phone is that so far, Microsoft has not been kind to 3rd part browsers on its ARM platforms that don’t use the IE rendering engine. The rendering engine would require a complete rebuild of Chrome, which is not a roadblock that could easily be overcome.

Google Chrome is the official browser of the tech giant and also has an OS counterpart that is available on Chromebooks and very soon, on desktops via the ASUS Chromebox.

Google is available on Android and downloadable for iOS-powered units. The browser can be downloaded for desktops.

Recently, Google Chrome now allows it users to drag and drop iTunes tracks into Google Play Music and the Google Now Virtual Assistant is now available as well.
