Upcoming Android phones 2014: Beginning last year, the battle for Android supremacy has become much more competitive with the rise of mobile makers which develop quality but affordable handsets. And one of emerging brands, Indian company Lava, plans to add more competitors in the already crowded smartphone market.

According to a report by GSM Arena, the Indian smartphone manufacturer has recently unveiled a midrange handset which would be perfect for casual Android users.

Dubbed as the Lava Iris 550Q, the Android-powered handset boasts a number of notable specs such as a 5.5-inch display with HD (1280 x 720) resolution, a quad-core CPU clocked at 1.2GHz, and 1GB of RAM.

Other features include 4GB of internal memory, a microSD card slot, an 8-megapixel shooter with BSI sensors, and a 2,600mAh battery that is capable of handling up to 10 hours of talk time.

As far as software is concerned, the Lava Iris 550Q runs on Android 4.2 Jelly Bean out of the box.

Priced at only $217, the Lava-developed smartphone is already a good deal, given the free flip cover that comes with it.
