Benedict Cumberbatch On Sherlock Season 4 Premiere Release Date—'Ask Them': 'Star Trek' Star And Martin Freeman To Star In Shakespeare Plays

As the "Sherlock" season 4 release date continues to elude us, Benedict Cumberbatch has a firm response to the question of the premiere.

"You work for the corporation, ask them."

Although said with laughter, Benedict Cumberbatch highlights the struggles for the series to produce additional episodes in a timely manner.

While executive producer Steven Moffat hinted earlier this year that a release date for "Sherlock" season 4 will come sooner than season 3, now projections are putting a release date to be two years down the line.

In addition to a rough 2016 release date, "Sherlock" season 4 will see the return of Moriarty, played by Andrew Scott.

But for those of you who want a stronger female presence on "Sherlock," season 4 will reportedly increase the roles for female characters Molly Hooper and Mrs. Hudson, played by Louise Brealey and Una Stubbs, respectively.

According to the Hollywood Reporter, Steven Moffat also hinted that new female character could be added, to aid "Sherlock's gradual humanization."

Meanwhile, Benedict Cumberbatch and Martin Freeman will ignite the London theater stage this summer.

According to Hypable, Martin Freeman will play Richard III from July through September at Trafalgar Studios. Cumberbatch will play Hamlet at the Barbican Theatre in August 2015 for a three-month run.

Unfortunately, projects like these, plus the inevitable film gigs means a "Sherlock" season 4 release date might be further off than we could've ever wanted.
