Samsung Galaxy Note 2 Specs, Update: Android-Powered Phablet Gets 4.4 KitKat Upgrade Ahead Of Galaxy S3; European Users Receives Rollout First

Samsung Galaxy Note 2 specs, update: The Android-powered Samsung Galaxy Note 2, the much-loved and admired anti-iphone phablet, is now receiving the Android 4.4 KitKat. A Samsung Galaxy S3 user, who seems to be in constant disappointment with updates are yet to get the 4.4 KitKat.

Samsung Galaxy Note 2 users in Europe would be the first to get the Android 4.4 KitKat. A quick look at the spec sheet of Phone Arena for the unit shows that the Note 2 was released in September 2012 and has a 5.5-inch display, Samsung Exynos quad-core processor, 2GB RAM and 16 GB, 32 GB, and 64GB variants. The handset provides microSD support for internal storage expansion. It also has a 3,100 mAh battery.

SamMobile reports that the new Android 4.4 KitKat brings a number of enhancements to the unit. Noticeable changes that users may recognize include full-screen album art, camera shortcut on the lock screen, wireless printing support, NFC tap-to-pay, options to set default messaging and launcher apps as well as better stability. Samsung KNOX is also in the new OS, which allows more secure communications and Samsung Wallet.

There have been reports that Samsung Galaxy Note 2 Android 4.4 KitKat update will roll out in May. The International Business Times reports that not all Samsung Galaxy Note 2 models will get the 4.4 KitKat update, citing Android Origin as a source.

The list of Samsung Galaxy Note 2 models that will get the Android 4.4 KitKat are: International GT-N7100, China Unicom Gt-N7102, International GT-N7105, China Mobile GT-N7108, Verizon SCH-i605, US Cellular SCH-R950, AT&T SGH-i317, Bell, Rogers, SaskTel and Telus SGH-i317M, T-Mobile SGH-T889, Mobilicity, Videotron and WIND SGH-T889V, Sprint SPH-L900, China Telecom SCH-N719, NTT DoCoMo SGH-N025, KT SHV-E250K, LG U+ SHV-E250L, and SK Telecom SHV.

The Business Times noted that the rollout, like usual Android updates, will be gradual as Samsung will need to send the Android 4.4.2 KitKat update to carriers for certification. Devices may get the upgrade as late as May or longer.

Samsung Galaxy Note 2 users can check if the Android 4.4.2 update is now available for their device by going to Go to Settings >> About Phone and see if there’s a notification for an OS update.
