‘The Amazing Spider Man 2': Peter Parker Is The ONLY Spider Man In The Movies! Will They Extend Andrew Garfield's Contract?

The recent interview with "The Amazing Spider Man" lead star Andrew Garfield brought about the possibility of having Miles Morales donning the Spider Man suit in the movies. The producers quickly shoot it down.

The interview with Comic Book Resources dealt with the possibility that the Spider Man we will see in subsequent movies will no longer be Peter Parker. Miles Morales, the younger, 'Blacktino' kid which donned the Spider Man suit after Peter Parker died in the Ultimate Marvel Universe.

Garfield was open to the idea of 'passing the torch:' "Miles Morales was a huge moment in this character's comic book life. And I do believe that we can do that. It's something I'm really interested in figuring out; an eloquent way of coexisting, or passing on the torch. I don't have an answer, but I think it's actually a really important move. I think it's a really beautiful and important move."

That hope was short-lived though. Producer Avi Arad talked to The Playlist and addressed the issue:

"No. The one thing you cannot do, when you have a phenomena that has stood the test of time, you have to be true to the real character inside - who is Peter Parker? What are the biggest effects on his life? Then you can draw in time, and you can consider today's world in many ways. But to have multiple ones... I don't know if you remember, but Marvel tried it. And it was almost the end of Spider-Man."

It seemed like the logical thing to do (passing the torch) as both Andrew Garfield and director Marc Webb have confirmed that their contracts are up after the third movie.

The producers did not directly address that fact on whether they will extend those contracts, but they did offer this response: "Spider-Man is the biggest character and can be filled in by able actors; he's survived for over 50 years. And I think that he will around for at least another 100 years or more. He is just is one of the most enduring role models and one of the only superheroes who starts at this age and keeps going."
