Goonies Sequel 2014: Goonies 2 Won't Reunite The Original Cast; While Goonies Never Say Die, Actors Do [VIDEO]

Goonies Sequel 2014:  Goonies 2 rumors are flying and Richard Donner is backtracking. At first Donner said he was trying to reunite the original Goonies cast, now he's not so adament. It would be impossible to reunite the Goonies cast because two of the actors from the first film have died.

Rumors about "Goonies 2" have been circulating since the first movie came out. The 1985 film was written by Steven Spielberg and Chris Columbus and was listed as one of the top box office hits of that year. It looks like those rumors are beginning to pan out. Richard Donner, who directed the original Goonies, recently said he wants to reunite Mikey, Brand, Chunk, Data and Mouth for Goonies 2. The Goonies' sequel will find the stars of the first film, now with children of their own, reuniting 20 years later to solve a new mystery.

When the story of a Goonies sequel first hit the net, Corey Feldman said he doubted it would happen. e wrote on his blog "There is no Goonies 2. I'm sorry but it's just not gonna happen. It seems every six months the rumor mill gets started up again and people run around both excited and angry, and eventually I have to respond."
Not so, Sean Astin, who told TV Guide, "It will happen. I'm 1000 percent certain there will be a sequel. I will bet my children on it." Feldman then replied "Oh my God. I am betting no child on this matter."

Earlier this month, TMZ asked Sean Astin, who played lead character "Mikey" in "The Goonies," if he would be interested in doing a sequel.

Astin went on to say "Dick Donner and Steven Spielberg have my heart. They tell me where to show up, I'll show up."

A complete Goonies cast reunion, will never happen because Anne Ramsey, who played lead villain Mama Fratelli, died in 1988. John Matuszak, who played Mama Fratelli's son Sloth, died in 1989.

Richard Donner was the director of the original cult movie The Goonies. When asked if Corey Feldman, Sean Astin, Martha Plimpton and Josh Brolin would return, Donner told TMZ "If they have any sense they will. If they don't, they won't."

Reports say Steven Spielberg wrote a story for the sequel. The Oscar-winning director of "Jaws," "ET" and "Schindler's List, Spielberg was the writer, producer and second unit director on the original Goonies film, which starred Corey Feldman, Josh Brolin, Sean Astin and Martha Plimpton.

Donner said "Steven came up with the idea of doing a sequel after 30 years. You don't do [a "Goonies" sequel] without him. Hopefully we're going to get this done, period. You don't do it without him. We've been trying for a long time, then he came up with another storyline and he's right on."

There's no word yet on when The Goonies 2 is expected to start filming.
