After School Uee Responsible for Awareness of the Group, Why Isn't She the Leader?

After School has decided on their new leader: the main vocalist Jungah. Recently it was announced as an official decision through SBS "Strong Heart."

Last June Gahee graduated from the group, the spot was open. Only a month after, Jungah was listed as the leader, holding up the team again with direction. Junga's rising as the group's leader seems to entail many significant factors.

For one, Jungah has been with the group since day one. Usually the leader role has been given to the oldest member or the one who stay the longest. Jungah and Jooyeon have both been with After School since the beginning of its existence. Between the two of them, Jungah is older, so, it could be assumed that she was given the role because of her two qualifying attributes. Obviously, her contributions as the main vocal cannot be neglected.

Nevertheless, the leader should also be a significant contributor to raising awareness of the group. In that aspect, member Uee is critical. Her contribution has been so essential that she could very well be considered the face of After School. However, her young age keeps her from readily taking on the position.

The criteria in picking the group leader is different for each agency. For example, YG Entertainment has designated CL as the leader of 2NE1, which is different from the norm. Therefore, it can also be seen that each group member is an important key figure, who must be selected through a process, where others are consequently eliminated from contesting.
