EXO's Chanyeol joins the unfortunately growing list of idols addressing their more aggressive and obsessive fans.
On November 3, Chanyeol took to the Chinese social media site Weibo to express his concerns and requests to these fans, known in Korean as sasaeng.
"I'm writing this article because I experienced something extremely dange, rous," the EXO member began according to My Daily. "After arriving in Shanghai, while we were leaving the airport, twenty vehicles appeared and followed us constantly. They blocked the roads and made many dangerous lane changes to block our van on the highway. There were several times that we could have ended up in an accident."
"There were many stopped cars in our path and these fans kept merging into our lane. Causing danger like that is wrong," Chanyeol's post continued. "I hope fans can cheer us on without harming their own safety or others."
EXO fans in the past have gained a bad reputation for their reckless behavior, and with EXO's popularity in both Korea and China it is not unheard of for them to come in contact with sasaeng. Extreme fans crashed the wedding of Baekhyun's older brother and even got the entire fandom banned from live Inkigayo performances.
Other K-pop idols like G-Dragon and Zico of Block B have made similar calls to such fans, asking them to act maturely and think through their actions.
