First Photos Of Benedict Cumberbatch as 'Doctor Strange'! Film Will Introduce Marvel's Mystic Side

First images of Benedict Cumberbatch as Stephen Strange a.k.a. Doctor Strange emerge.

"The Marvel Cinematic Universe is about to get a whole lot more magical and a bit more...Strange," said Stan Lee on his official page. "Dr. Stephen Strange, better known as Doctor Strange the Sorcerer Supreme is about to make his debut on the big screen."

"The mighty mage has been casting spells since the 60's, and since he first appeared in Marvel's Strange Tales the good doctor has acquired quite the loyal following."

Twitter user Cumberbatchweb has published a photo of the actor filming on location in Nepal.

Although little is known about the movie's plot, it will likely focus on Stephen Strange, a successful but arrogant neurosurgeon damages his hand in a car accident, rendering them unusable for surgery.

Strange, who is wealthy like Tony Stark, uses all his money in trying to find a cure for his hands. He travels to Nepal and comes across The Ancient One, who trains him and gives him mystical powers to defend Earth from sinister forces.

"Doctor Strange" marks phase 3's newest franchise, introducing the cosmic and supernatural to the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

Before the "Sherlock" actor bagged the role, several A-list actors including Johnny Depp, Matthew McConaughey and Keanu Reeves. "Her" star Joaquin Phoenix reached several levels of negotiations with Marvel, but ultimately passed on the offer refusing to sign a multi-picture contract.

Along with Cumberbatch, the film will feature Chiwitel Ejiofor (Four Brothers) as Baron Mordo, Daniel Bruhl (Inglorious Basterds, Rush) as Baron Zemo, Tilda Swinton (The Curious Case of Benjamin Button) as The Ancient One, Rachel McAdams (True Detective) and Juliet Rylance (Sinister) in as yet undisclosed roles.

Benedict Cumberbatch debuts as "Doctor Strange" on Nov. 4, 2016.
