Earlier this week it was revealed that EXO would be releasing a new single entitled "Lightsaber" in collaboration with the "Star Wars: The Force Awakens" movie premiere in Korea. Group members Baekhyun, Sehun, and Kai finally have been able to talk a little about the song as well as give a bit of information on their future plans as a group.
In an interview on KBS2 TV's "Entertainment Weekly," Kai explained that the group was very shocked that they were chosen for the collaboration.
"I'm really happy. It's an honor [to be chosen]. But honestly, I don't know the reason why we were chosen. Even without us doing anything, isn't it an incredibly popular movie already," said Kai (via Soompi).
Kai's shock is perhaps mirrored by the fact that fact that without even having been released yet. According to reports, "Star Wars: The Force Awakens" has already raked in $6.5 Million in IMAX presale tickets for the U.S alone.
However, given Disney's previous SM Rookies "Mickey Mouse Club" project with SM Entertainment, the EXO "Lightsaber" digital single and film seems like the next step in a budding collaborative relationship between the two companies. It was reported that the two companies are planning on several other collaborations in the future.
Despite the business of their Japan promotions and this new single, EXO member Baekhyun revealed that the group is mainly focusing on sticking together in the future.
"We hope to stay together and continue on this path. It's a simple but important goal," said Baekhyun.
"Star Wars: The Force Awakens" opens in Korean theaters on Dec. 17. The song and film "Lightsaber" featuring EXO is expected to be released around the same time.
