"Sons of Anarchy" may have sang its swansong eight months ago, but fans of the critically-acclaimed show remain optimistic that a spinoff may already be in the pipeline.
This, after the series' showrunner Kurt Sutter teased about the possibility of bringing back the motorcycle club in some other way or form, according to E! News.
"It's something that we have talked about," Sutter told E! News during the 2015 TCA Summer Tour where he was promoting his new FX series "The Bastard Executioner."
"I think the timing of it really depends on what unfolds," the "Sons of Anarchy" creator shared, referring to the show's highly-anticipated spinoff.
"I think for me, and the network, it's taking the next obvious and right choice and [The Bastard Executioner] is the energy we're moving in now," he added.
During an earlier interview with E! News, Sutter floated the idea of doing a First 9 prequel series featuring the SAMCRO founders.
However, he hinted that he wanted the show to be sort of a stand-alone, origin story which traced the biker club's beginnings.
"I never really saw [a spinoff] as a full-on series because when you start doing that, I want to honor this mythology we created and I didn't want to step on it..." the creator explained.
"So I think I like the idea of it being a one-off and perhaps just to establish how the club was formed and let it go at that," he added.
In a separate interview with Deadline in September, Sutter gave a possible preview of what fans could expect from the "Sons of Anarchy" spinoff.
"At some point I do have plans to hopefully do the prequel, which I do see as a one-off 10 or 12 episode thing where we begin in Nam and see John Teller and Piney and see how that relationship got created...," he said.
"And bring them back to the States and the obvious external dynamics that were going on with the country and the perception of the war and what an odd kind of perception these vets got when they returned home." he continued.
"And then have it be the development of the club, ending before we start to get too close to some of the mythology that's already been established," he added.
In the meantime, as Sutter and his team develop the "Sons of Anarchy" spinoff, the series' followers can content themselves with watching re-runs of the show.
