What can fans expect from "Narcos" season 2 as they eagerly await the announcement of the show's release date?
Although speculations abound as to what will be the trajectory of the crime-drama series in its sophomore season, a major development that is expected to take place is the cat-and-mouse search for Pablo Escobar, reported Bustle.
In the finale of "Narcos" season 1, Escobar was seen escaping into the woods, as DEA agent Steve Murphy vowed to stand over the drug lord's dead body.
Viewers will recall that the show's story took off in the year 1989, and ended sometime in 1991 or 1992 when Columbia's "king of cocaine" was held at the La Catedral prison.
Going by these series of real-life events, "Narcos" season 2 still has a lot of story to tell.
After Escobar's prison break, a massive manhunt was carried out by the United States' DEA led by agents Murphy and Javier Peña.
A special operations team called the "Search Block," which includes the US Navy SEALS, Delta Force, and the ISA, was also formed to help in the search for Escobar.
The "Search Block" eventually teamed up with the Cali Cartel - Escobar's nemesis - with goal of finally bringing down the drug kingpin.
And if the show's producers decide to kill of Escobar in "Narcos" season 2, this will not mean the end of DEA's involvement in Columbia, and as many fear, could lead to the series' conclusion.
In fact, after Escobar's actual death, the Search Block continued with its mission of dismantling the drug trade in Columbia, as it was also sent to go after the Cali cartel.
Although studio executives have not announced an official release date for the series' sophomore season, it is expected to premiere in the early summer or late fall of 2016, according to Netflix Life.
"Narcos" season 2 will star Wagner Moura as Pablo Escobar, Boyd Holbrook as Steve Murphy, Pedro Pascal as Javier Pena, and Joanna Christie as Connie Murphy.
