There have been plenty of talks about the "Captain Marvel" casting but the way the story should go is not discussed quite much.
With that said, "Meadowland" director Reed Morano, one among the pool of directors that might get a shot at directing "Captain Marvel," gave a glimpse on how she will give life to the character, Carol Danvers. For her, she will focus on the dark times of the character, which are her alcoholic days.
"I just want to tell good stories with rich, complex characters. Carol Danvers' story is the perfect example of that, with stories like her battle with alcoholism as she is losing her powers and her struggle with the loss of her memories," Morano told Cinema Blend.
"It excites me to see her story told because she's a female superhero that is completely three dimensional and compelling. She has flaws and she is struggling."
According to the website, Morano is no stranger to these kinds of themes as her debut movie is about the struggle of a couple trying to find their abducted children. Is she the right director for the job? Stay tuned.
It will also be interesting to see which of the current list of actresses will fit in with Morano. Although that is hard to predict, she and Olivia Wilde shares the same vision in terms of showing Carol Danvers as a vulnerable person with flaws just like a normal human being.
"The thing with female superheroes is that, in order to be powerful, they are flawless," Wilde told Cinema Blend. "The idea of kick-ass power lacks a certain nuance, at times. There is something to be said for a female director working to create a female superhero that perhaps [has] a little more complexity."
