Korean singer and actor Kim Hyun Joong might be enlisted in the army, but he certainly isn't out of the spotlight.
The star will reportedly meet his ex-girlfriend for the first time in nine months in order to take a paternity test. The former couple have been involved in a series of legal battles since 2014 when Kim was first charged with assaulting his now-ex, known to the media only by her surname, Choi.
Following a financial settlement and brief reconciliation, the matter escalated again in February 2015 when it was revealed Choi was pregnant. She gave birth in early September, but the paternity of the child is yet to be confirmed.
On Sep. 24, Choi filed a lawsuit against the "Boys Over Flowers" actor to force him to take a paternity test. Kim's legal team agreed to the test, but wanted to go through a privately hired company. Choi expressed concerns about the partiality of the test, and the court agreed. On Dec. 9, it was determined the test will now be conducted in Seoul University Hospital.
According to a statement given by Choi's lawyer Sun Jong Moon to Star News on Dec. 9, "Kim Hyun Joong and Ms. Choi will take DNA tests to prove the child's parentage at a hospital on December 14. The results will be available within a week. Kim Hyun Joong's paternity will be established then."
"The testing will take place at a credible facility," he added. "This means that Kim and his ex-girlfriend will meet at the same location at the same time to receive the test. Then we can put an end to the speculation."
If the star doesn't comply with the order, he could face a fine of $8,500.
The last time Kim and Choi met was in March at a hospital in order to confirm the pregnancy. Kim's lawyer and family have continued to express reservations about the paternity of the child.
